The Silver Bough

A Journal of Druidic Studies

The Silver Bough is subtitled "A Journal of Druidic Studies" in reference to that loose field of interdisciplinary knoweldge we at Avalon Center pursue. The journal will be published semi-annually in the light and dark halves of the year, each number coming out at Bealtaine and Samhuinn respectively. We are currently seeking submissions for our first issue, the Samos Issue 2008. Any topic related to the areas of knoweldge covered by Avalon Center's catalog is acceptable and other topics may be considered. Send a brief letter of inquiry or the paper itself to Ann Rowe the Editor-in-Chief of the Silver Bough. (AEROWE at aol.com)

The editorial board of the journal is seeking articles, poems, and perhaps even versions of myths on topics dealing with druidry (old or new), witchcraft (again, old or new), magical arts, history of magic, Celtic history and cultural studies, cultural studies ingeneral, comparative mythology or religious studies, modern paganism, and such areas of practice as herbology, tree lore, ecology, sustainable living, permaculture, divination, and alternative healing modalities, especially, but not necessarily, related to modern druidry. The editors are also open to reprinting valuable articles or primary source material in English translation, articles or commentaries on primary source matieral in herbology, healing arts, magical arts, divination, and Celtic studies. Pieces on language and literature are also welcome as are book reviews.

The overall tone and style of the journal is intended to be scholarly but not obscure. Academic jargon is discouraged in favor of plain English and clarity. Citations accompanying articles should be in accordance with the Modern Language Association Style Manual. Footnotes may be used in addition to parenthetical citations and a list of works cited at the end of the article. Please include a blurb about the author with your submission including any credentials you may have from academic institutions, religious institutions, or orders. Academic degrees are not manditory by any means; however, the editors are most interested in researched work or original creative work. Original speculative work is also acceptable and encouraged but should be presented as such to avoid any confusion over sources. Druidry values individual Awen, inspiration and revelation. Such pieces will be evaluated on their merits, writing style, and interest.

You will find some information on this web site about modern druidry, if you are not already familiar with the field. You may also wish to visit some of the major druid orders such as the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids or the Ancient Order of Druids in America. The Druid Network is also an excellent resource for this wide-ranging part of the magical community.
